Mendoza - Adventures in Mendoza!

Argentina (Mendoza) 2005-10-29

1. Argentina is BIG! 6 times bigger than Sweden and we have experienced humid tropical jungle and temperatures below zero and tons of snow.

2. Mendoza is a desert!

3. The oil industry is really big - bigger than we had understood.

4. Argentina is very cheep. 4 US dollar for a nice peace of meat, salad and a half bottle of wine, excursions costs 25 US dollar and you have a full program for 16 hours! Our accommodation in Mendoza costed 10 US dollar per person, including breakfast.

5. Boy, do they have old and odd cars in this country!!! It’s a pleasure to walk on the roads and hear the sound of a lorry from 1946 starting and accelerating.

6. You encounter poverty every day. We have seen this in every city in Argentina and Brazil.

7. It is VERY EASY to travel in South America. Long distance buses have very good quality - see the website of Andesmar and look at the pictures and click some links and you understand.

In summary, our three days in Mendoza has been great. Nice wines (MALBEC IS THE KING OF WINES IN MENDOZA), lovely excursions to San Rafael with its fantastic landscape and the tour into the Andes with Aconcagua 6.900 meter over sea level (well, the weather did not permit a summit!!!)

We have seen our first Condor - in total we have seen approx 20 of them so far.

Now we head back to B.A with the night bus - next week we are planning to visit Montevideo in Uruguay and stay a night at an Estancia outside B.A before we fly down to Patagonia.

Hasta la vista – EvAnders
